The door of this traditional almirah features a member of the royal court offering wine to the beautiful ladies. Lateral pieces are adorned with portraits of the emperor, while the top presents the king and queen enjoying a moment on the palace lawn. The artist crafts the work from mango wood, using watercolors to render the traditional pichwai compositions. This almirah features two shelves and a latch for opening and closing. Pichwai paintings originated several centuries ago in Rajasthan, and they usually depict Lord Krishna and Radha. The name derived from the Hindi word for "backside" or "behind," these paintings originally covered the walls behind sculptures of the celestial couple, and were usually wrought in pure gold. Today several people are often engaged in executing one painting, which can take four to five days to finish.
